INSTALLATION AND CONFIGURATION DHCP SERVER ON DEBIAN 8

 A. WHAT IS DHCP SERVER ?

(IDN) Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) adalah protokol standar yang ditentukan oleh RFC 1541 (yang digantikan oleh RFC 2131) yang memungkinkan server untuk mendistribusikan alamat IP dan informasi konfigurasi secara dinamis kepada klien. Biasanya server DHCP memberi klien setidaknya informasi dasar ini: Alamat IP.

(ENG) Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) is a standard protocol defined by RFC 1541 (which was superseded by RFC 2131) that allows servers to dynamically distribute IP addresses and configuration information to clients. Typically a DHCP server provides clients with at least this basic information: IP address.

 

  B. HOW TO INSTALLATION & CONFIGURATION DHCP SERVER ON DEBIAN 8 ?

1.) Before installation and configuration DHCP server, you must to log in debian 8. But if you don't have debian 8 yet, you can find an article about it on my blogger. 😁

 

 2.) After that, you must to setting network adapter. How? Settings > Network > in the attached to: section change it to Host-only adapter, and select the name of the available name. Don't forget to apply or OK

 

3.) Windows Explorer > "Control Panel" > Network and Internet > Network and sharing center > Change Adapter Settings and then you can disable everything that has nothing to do with your virtual machine. Like this

 4.) Settings your host-only adapter to "obtain an IP address Automatically" to the DCHP server configuration can be successful on your client PC. Don't forget to apply or OK

 5.) Enter the terminal, then enter su mode and set the network configuration (/etc/network/interfaces) according to your needs. IF ALR IMPLEMENTED, press CTRL + X AND Y then ENTER

 

6.) /etc/init.d/networking restart to find out if our network configuration was successful? 

 

7.) Before adding DVD 2, you go to /etc/apt/sources.list then delete the deb-src and deb http taggar . If alr implemented, don't forget to CTRL + X and Y then ENTER

 

8.) To adding DVD 2, Devices > Optical Devices  > select the dvd you have downloaded

 

9.) apt-cdrom add to add the DVD to the sources.list . If already implemented, You have to go back to /etc/apt/sources.list to add it back and check if the DVD was added successfully.

 

10.) Right now, it is the time to install packet DHCP Server

apt-get intall isc-dhcp-server

 

11.) we go into the DHCP configuration section

nano /etc/dhcp/dhcpd.conf

 arrow: remove previously existing taggar

highlight : change the IP according to the network configuration that you set earlier

 

 don't forget to save, CTRL + X and Y then ENTER

12.)  nano /etc/default/isc-dhcp-server

INTERFACE="lo"  

change it like this

INTERFACE="eth0"  

Don't forget to save.

 

C. Testing stage

/etc/init.d/isc-dhcp-server restart

 

if there are no errors throughout the steps, then the DHCP IP on the PC Client is available.
